From Teton, I headed west to Boise. After a night in civilization
(and a shower), I headed off with Laura and Jason for some camping and
backpacking in the Sawtooth Mountain Range.
The first night, we camped at the Iron Creek Trailhead.
Then the next morning, we started the hike up to Sawtooth Lake. On the way up, we missed the fallen logs a few yards downstream of the trail that would've made crossing this creek a lot warmer.
We had our lunch at the lovely Alpine Lake (that's actually the name, not just a description).
You can really tell why they're called the Sawtooth mountains.
When we arrived at the lake, we found it mostly frozen over, very snowy, and were hammered by a thunderstorm within minutes. Dramatic, but not ideal camping weather.
When we heard from another hiker that there were severe thunderstorms predicted for the rest of the evening, we packed up camp and hiked down. But we did (briefly) enjoy the view at the lake.
I left Boise and headed for Seattle. I'd wholeheartedly recommend Miner's Drive-In in Yakima - great place for lunch, and the rootbeer freezes are supposed to be fantastic. |
