300 was as bad as I expected, but Wizard People, Dear Reader was way better than expected – it’s an alternate soundtrack to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by Brad Neely, the guy who told us all about George Washington. Tavolata was excellent, as expected.

The Pi(e) Party (pictures soon) was even bigger and pi(e)-er than last year, and included only the second attempted pie-in-the-face attack in eight years. The first mostly failed (but it was a valiant effort, Tova), whereas this year’s did end up with me covered in whipped cream. Unfortunately, it also resulted in my entire living room covered in whipped cream – it was more of a pie-grenade-explosion than pie-sniper-rifle-shot. But, the new couch weathered it well, and the party was a great time.

Yesterday’s Slog in the Bog lived up to its name as it rained (and winds consistently blew at 15-20 mph) the whole day. Given the four games I played in the weather yesterday, I wasn’t really up for another, so I skipped out on my spring league game and opted for brunch instead. Highly recommended is the sesame crunch waffle with blueberries, bananas, and whipped cream.

Hard to believe I’ve been here so long already, but this Friday I’m throwing my second Pi(e) Party (March 14th = 3/14 = 3.14 = pi, and also my birthday) in Seattle. It’s become tradition that my brother comes to visit around my birthday – something I really enjoy. Along with the party, plans for the week include a visit to Tavolata, the Boeing Surplus Store, and possibly a viewing of possibly the most overhyped movie of the year (though it is early), 300.

I spent the better portion of the day today making croissants (from scratch), and the remaining portion of the day eating them. It was a rough Sunday.

This recipe came out pretty well. Not perfectly, mind you, but pretty well. They could have used a little more of a sheen to them, and maybe have been a little less biscuity on the inside. But, they were distinctly croissants – crispy outside, chewy inside, buttery all over – and not bad for a first shot.
