I had started to write a post about my East Coast trip (which was great, btw) earlier this week, but got busy. Then I got laid off.

My great little engineering company (well, not mine per se, but it felt that way sometimes), in a very un-great move, laid off 40% of the company in one fell swoop, with no warning. Needless to say, I’m not thrilled, but I’m dealing just fine. There are worse things than being unemployed in Seattle in the summertime.

I’m 4 for 4 on having an ice cream each day I’ve been in Boston – lemon espresso, lumpy primate (chunky moneky ripoff) & strawberry rhubarb, lemon burnt caramel, and grapenut (with burnt caramel sauce). It’s early enough in the day today that I’m pretty confident about going 5 for 5.

I was a little worried about my ankle, as it’s been 2 weeks since I stopped running/playing frisbee on it and it wasn’t feeling that much better. But, last night, we had a meeting about creating a second coed team (after a bunch of folks got passed up for Shazam) and ended up tossing a disc and running around a bunch afterward. No pain! I’m still not gonna play ’til Potlatch, but at least I know I’ll be in reasonable shape by then.

Off to Boston, Western Mass. and Ithaca tonight for friends, family, ice cream, museums and a wedding. Back in a week and change.

I just got back from watching a rehearsal of my friend Rachel’s performance art group, Helsinki Syndrome – they’re participating in the Northwest New Works Festival at On the Boards. If you’re in town this weekend (I’ll be in Boston), check it out. In the course of setting the stage up before the run-through, the question was asked: “Does the concertina come out of this tub before or after the umbrella?” That should give you an idea of how crazy (and great) the piece is.

On my way home from work on Friday, I picked up my new bike from the Montlake Bicycle Shop, then yesterday took a nice ride up to Shoreline for the spring league playoffs (just to watch and heckle). So far, I’m enjoying the bike, and even managed not to fall over on my first day out with clipless pedals.
