What's been on my mind lately? Read on...

I’ve been trying to write up my Portland bike trip and include some Google Maps, but seem to have run into a bug in their code. If I map out directions from my house to Portland, selectively add some waypoints, and check the “Avoid Highways” button, I get something awful close to the route I took. If I click the “Link to this Page” button, I get two choices: a link to post, and a snippet of code that embeds a map into my HTML. The link works, but the HTML doesn’t – the HTML version doesn’t avoid highways. Check it out: here’s the link; and here’s the HTML version

Well, it is free, I suppose.

I spent the weekend up in Burlington at Spawnfest. Shadrach did alright – we won our easy games handily, but couldn’t quite squeak out wins against two tough teams, and we came in third. We did so in style, though, as we got our new jerseys and shorts from Five Ultimate. Thanks to them and Crocs for the gear & support!

Sunday night I got back from my Portland trip, content, but legs like jello. I’m planning on writing up my thoughts, but the preview is: I had a great time biking down, hanging out, and playing frisbee, but if I did it again, I’d leave more time to recover before playing at a competitive ultimate tournament.

Shadrach did pretty well at Kleinman. We won the games we were supposed to win, and did quite well against teams that we weren’t supposed to beat. We’ve got some work to do before Spawnfest and the Fall Club Series, but we’re on our way.

The trip was a great ending to a month of fun. I certainly wasn’t expecting to get laid off, but think I did a fine job of taking advantage of free time in Seattle in the summer. Not that the fun is completely over, but it’s time to buckle down and start the job search. I’ll be updating my resume & portfolio in the coming week and pounding the pavement looking for leads. I’m hoping something comes out of this week’s Ignite, too.

Posting from my Palm on the road…

So far, so good. Yesterday I made it to Centralia, today, Longview. Tomorrow, Portland!

I’ve been busy, especially so considering I don’t have a job! The frisbee team jerseys are being sorted out, and we’ll likely have something going before Kleinman. Much appreciation & respect to 5 Ultimate for their patience and generosity.

I’ve really been enjoying Smith lately – they’ve got great food, good beer, you can hear yourself talk even when it’s busy, and it’s just down the street. Try the beets.

Stitch ‘n’ Pitch last night was a hoot. No pictures to share, but I did wear my men knit t-shirt to the game. Off to Kingston for the weekend, then heading out on my Seattle-to-Portland bicycle adventure Monday morning.
