What's been on my mind lately? Read on...

It’s been quite some time since I noticed that the mileage my hybrid’s MPG gauge reported was about 5% higher than what I calculated using the trip odometer and the volume of gas off the pump. In today’s mail, I received notice of a class-action lawsuit against Honda, claiming the odometer on all Hondas sold between 2002 and 2006 reads 2-4% higher than the actual mileage. It took me a little while to figure out they’re probably not related (the MPG gauge is calculating the mileage based on the same odometer figure I am, so we should get the same figure), but it’s interesting none the less.

I’ve been looking at furniture recently, in search of the sofa for my living room. I quite liked several of the Bensen designs, but can’t quite stomach the $5K price tags. I think I’ve settled on this couch (in “Sage”) from Design Within Reach, which is somewhat reasonably priced (making it unlike many things at DWR in that it actually is within reach).

I finally had a chance to do a new model of my place in Sketchup, this time to scale – check it out here.

I also spent the afternoon replacing a broken window sash cord with copper chain in my bedroom. Pictures soon, but the summary is that it worked, and looks pretty decent. I bought enough chain to redo all the windows, so I’ve got plenty of work cut out for me.

McMaster-Carr never ceases to amaze me. I’ve been calling around Seattle and scouring the internet the past couple days looking for sash chain, but didn’t find anyone who sold it for a reasonable price. Lo and behold, McMaster does, and it’ll be here tomorrow. What would I do without them?

We were lucky enough at work today to have Trimpin join us for lunch. His studio is just down the street, but we’d never met him ’til today – what a fascinating and impressive guy. Sometime, I’d love to get to Phaeno and check out his sculpture there.
