Just found: Stitch ‘n’ Pitch. I’m gonna wear my new shirt.
What's been on my mind lately? Read on...
It’s been a while since I ranted political here, but it seems to be time:
If you’re looking to be throroughly depressed with a retrospective on just how likely it is that the 2004 election results are less than legitimate, read this piece by Robert Kennedy. Combined, common sense, an older article analzying the cost of rigging an election vs. winning it legitimately, and Kennedy’s piece don’t paint a pretty picture of voting in the future.
In more depressing news, Washington State now allows pharmacists to refuse to fill a prescription based on moral objections (see the Seattle PI article here). Why do we seem to be adding more discriminatory laws instead of removing existing ones? Wrong direction, folks.
On the slightly brighter side (in that the word is definitely getting out), check out this interview with Al Gore about An Inconvenient Truth and go see the movie this weekend.
Alright, that ought to do for a while.
Saw a great shirt in the coffee shop this morning: “Man enough to knit, strong enough to purl.” Check out Men Knit and the associated CafePress store.
I accidentally left my shaving kit in New York a couple weeks ago, and it took a while for it to make its way back to me. In the meantime, I shaved, but not with a brush and soap. It’s just not the same…
I’ve got a real love/hate thing going with the Sierra Club. On one hand, they’re an important advocate for preservation and conservation, and on the other, they bug me incessantly for money. I’m a member, but I really dislike being hit up for additional donations at every opportunity – I probably get one or two emails a month, plus a phone call every month or two asking for more. Yikes.
Had a great trip last night to Sambar in Ballard, which included a fantastic new cocktail: whisky or bourbon (can’t remember), vanilla infused simple syrup, and lime juice. Simple and very tasty.
The Weepies were great on Wednesday night – left me looking forward to Peter Mulvey at the Tractor in a couple weeks.
